We all know that the FG and Asuu deligates had a meeting yesterday concerning the ongoing Asuu strike that has been on since march till date.
The FG team was led by Ngige, his minister of state Festus Keyamo(SAN) and others while that of Asuu deligates were led by its presiden, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.
The meeting between the FG and Asuu was Adjourned to hold on 21st of October, 2020 and with this, the ongoing strike has not been suspended. But some of the outcome of yesterday’s meeting is stated below.
The Federal Government has finally agreed to release N30bn earned academic allowance to the university lecturers and the money will be paid in tranches between May 2021 and February 2022.
Also the FG also has promised to spend N20bn on the revitalisation of the educational sector as part of concessions meant to end the seven-month strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The minister of labour and employment Chris Ngige, said that NigerianNigerian students were being recruited into the #EndSARS protest due to the closure of universities by Asuu.
He also said that there Is hope that Asuu would soon call off the strike soon and that the FG had been trying their best to ensure that all schools reopen.
Nigige finally said;
“For the past one week, we have all been meeting and we pray that this meeting will yield good and positive fruit”.
With the way things are turning out to be, Asuu and the FG will soon reach an agreement then boom, the strike will be called off!!! Let us keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
